Racing with BABA in 2010 The 2010 schedule is set and we're ready to race. In addition to the BABA and WET course racing events, BABA has established a GPS Speed Quest - see the grey side-bar to the right for links. We also have some ideas for spontaneous wind-driven events - read on..... Racing is one of the best ways to improve your windsurfing and sailbording skills. Race courses combine upwind, downwind and across the wind sailing around bouys. Tacks and jibes are performed to complete the course. BABA shares the love with our Novices - the most important class at every racing event. If you've never raced, but are interested, come on out and give it a try. The Novice class is for first time racers, experienced sailors to newbies - the race course is a new challenge for everyone. Continuing for 2010 is a Hybrid class - bring out those Bic 293 one design boards. Hybrid boards can be rented from East of Maui or Ultimate Watersports. If you have been wanting to race but don't have the ideal light wind machine, set one up for rental on one of our race days and find out how much fun it is chasing people around a course. This board is a great novice platform too. There are going to be some special, spontaneous events happening under the radar. Folks are always saying "how about a slalom race?" Chances are that there will be a windy day on a weekend when there is no formal event scheduled so we are entertaining the idea that on short notice we could pull off a slalom race or two. It could be at the Gunpowder, Podickery Point Yacht Club or Mayo Beach. If the forecast is looking promising we'll start a mad e-mail blitz (be sure you're registered on More_Downhaul to receive last minute info) along with a headliner on the website and who ever sees it can also call all their friends. Another thing we hear about is a bay crossing, which could be in the making. Annapolis Wind Stu will no doubt be coming up with some crazy fun out of Jackson Creek. I've heard things like the a Chester River crossing on boards, kayaks, SUP's. Speaking of SUP's, East of Maui will be coming up with a stand up paddle event or two. if you haven't been on one yet you're missing a whole other dimension of board fun. _____________________________________ BABA Racing Coordinator Tom Sargent, US 919 _____________________________________ BABA I Formula Windsurfing Festival BABA II BABA VI Race around Hart Miller Island Windsurfing Enthusiasts of Tidewater (WET) |
